Music Monday...

Lanie Lane...

I hadn't heard too much about Lanie Lane until i was browsing through the JJJ Unearthed website listening to all the up and coming artists and her voice completely blew me away not only that i am literally obsessed with this song now i just cant get it out of my head, its a perfect catchy summer song!! Her voice reminds me so much of Billie Holiday mixed with Kate Bush.. Plus her vintage dresses are all to die for!!! Frankie summed her up pretty perfectly here

Hope you all had a fab weekend i spent it browsing the stalls at the Beaufort Street Festival and having one too many ciders in the sun XX

Its almost my birthday also :) the 16th to be exact i am having a few drinks with some close friends and that is about all im doing to celebrate.. but i was thinking this may be the dress ill wear..hmm its a casual Sunday drink so i dont need anything too over the top... but the decision is do it hem it or not....... i need help!!!! i sometimes have an issue with cropping certain dresses mainly because i like to keep the asthetic the same as it wasin the era they were made and the majority of the time after hemming them i dont like the result in the end and wish i never did it....

Although i am thinking mayb a little bit just over or on the knee and this dress would be the perfect length...what do you think???

Camouflage..

As i mentioned yesterday i managed to get a little time to go for a drive over the weekend and visit one of my favourite spots its hidden in the back of kalamunda in the hills and is about a half hour drive from my house now..i used to live two seconds away but living closer to the city has its advantages even though i miss the hills sometimes..I used to drive up there alot whenever i was having a down day or whenever i was in photoshoot mode..the view is so amazing!!

Its funny growing up i was always in the hills (bush) living on a huge farm with lots of animals and id have to say i had the best childhood we were never stuck in front of a tv in fact my mum let us watch the news thats it..and me and my sister would just hang out in the fig trees or down by the creek bed, i was honestly really lucky i had the chance to be a real kid and use my imagination for fun instead of technology and when i have kids i hope i can do the same for them..

I think because i have always been surrounded by it as soon as i smell the dewy air and the cars start to dwindle on the roads and everything starts to turn into red dust i feel instantly at home...i could sit on a big rock in the middle of nowhere and feel right where im supposed to be!!!

Anyway thats enough about that... i actually hadn't thought too much about this outfit and it wasnt until i was uploading them onto my laptop i noticed im actually almost in camouflage (except for the bright red shoes) haha.. i pretty much blend right in!!! The wool skirt was a cute find i love it when vintage skirts fit perfectly and hug the curves in your body it was so hot but overcast as you can tell so i had the best of both worlds wool skirt, lace top!! and your probably thinking what a dill she is wearing heels in the bush haha, truth is they are so comfy it feels like im wearing flats!! and plus i was venturing out for cupcakes and coffee later that day so heels it was...

Im hanging out for the weekend already (its only Tuesday)
XX P.S - ive just finished reading The Catcher in the Rye (loved it) have u guys read anything lately i simply must read??????

Music Monday...

The Arcade Fire...

Its Music Monday again...i cant believe how fast the weekend went...only like 6 weeks to Christmas!! ahhhhh...
I wanted to post about my number 1 band today The Arcade Fire, i know most of you have a similar love affair with them as i do.. Id have to say about two years ago i first heard keep the car running and since then they still remain my favourite band ever!!!! i saw them live at the big day out a few years ago too and they completely blew my mind.. they have everything i love about music bumpy beats, clapping, whistling and infections lyrics..

So how was your weekends??? We had the most awful weather, sticky and hot but overcast i mean whats with that?? I managed sneak in a country drive and then i went to watch Social Network on Saturday night and id have to say i was a little unimpressed.. did anyone else feel that way (mayb im the only one) im not sure why i just didnt feel it held my attention (i get twitchy when im bored) and then on Sunday i went Here for my Best Friends birthday lunch which was super lovely..lots of wine and giggles..

Take me back...to 1952

I was doing my usual flitting through vintage photographers on the internet yesterday (it is an obsession) and came across these photographs by Loomis Dean..Oh..My..Grapejuice!!!! i practically had a heartattack.. i havent seen anything more perfect..and i haven't wanted to step back in time more after seeing these (although im always pretty sure i was born in the wrong era).
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Loomis started his career photographing people in the travelling Circus from the 1950's and he then started working for LIFE magazine..these images are of students at the Florida State University in March 1952..yes i would like to have attended this university please..i all of a sudden want to don a glitz bodysuit and fly on a trapeze!!
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
I find images from the old circus performers so fascinating there is so much haunting beauty behind their eyes, from the first tattooed women to the clowns and amazing costumes they would put together..just look at the sequins and ruffles ahhhhh!!! i may be drooling on my keyboard as im typing.

There is honestly so many things i wish we had in our time now that they had in the past..but for now i guess i will continue getting my fix through photographs!!! Heading into summer i am officially on the hunt for a two piece exactly like the second last image, that pattern and cut..she is too perfect for words!!!

Ok im going to stop gushing now and let you drink it all in..

The Perfect Mix..

Going into Spring i had already a solid idea of my colour pallet, lots of Khaki Green mixed with pastel colours and Beige tones without crossing the line into army wear!! i was looking for a cute Khaki skirt and eventually found one at Witchery on sale (even better) and in a whirl i was thinking of all the pieces i had to mix and match it with...
Photobucket

Photobucket
It didnt turn out to be as easy as i thought i went through piles of clothes black jackets and white blouses but nothing was taking my fancy, what i though was a perfect Spring colour was turning out to be more of a layering piece for Winter or Autumn..ahh!!! so because its so warm its a little limited.. i dont know if anyone else feels the same but its just what i ended up with haha!!!
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
So in the end i opted for a simple vintage button blouse and brown accessories and i dont think it turned out too bad!!!
I hope you all had a fab weekend i ended up having a rather busy one lots of op shopping, birthdays, baking and wedding planning with my sister there is just so much to organize but im enjoying it all, so exciting!!!
And on some good news my Aunty just got engaged too so its wedding central at the moment!!!

But on a sad note i will be held captive in my house for a few weeks thanks to my car needing an overhaul!! i swear im going to buy a bike and ride around everywhere less stressful and id loose weight too haha!! so no going out or op shopping for me for awhile (sob)

Music Monday...

Beach House..

The Beach House album "Devotion" is the perfect soundtrack to a lazy nostalgic day preferably when the rain is beating down on your windows and your still in your pyjamas at noon. The lyrics are hauntingly beautiful and just by listening to them gives you an automatic creative kick.. they stir up the writer in me i swear to you...Bon Iver does the exact same thing..there is just something in the lyrics almost like an unexplainable euphoric feeling... Enjoy the video how cute is it..love the polaroids!!

Park Dweller..

I would have to consider myself a bit of a park dweller, i honestly dont feel more at home anywhere else..(but im sure you all know this i gab on about it constantly) i have shot some pictures before in Hyde Park but i went there on sunday to read a bit of Tennyson and enjoy the sun so i thought id snap a few pics of what i wore..
Photobucket

Photobucket
I also have posted about this dress too but it is the ultimate for lounging around and just by slipping on a pair of flats makes it the perfect Sunday outfit!!!
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Is this not the most perfect park you have ever seen, the trees are something out of this world!!! it has the craziest characters that visit it though too this cute old man with his parrot comes almost every Sunday and sits in the park and greets everyone..
Photobucket

Photobucket
I love Tennyson...
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
And this was the view from where i was sitting!!! just thought id share with you..do you guys have any awesome parks around??? i think its kinda rare to find one with a bit of character these days..

Hope your Tuesday is Swell XX
